How florists price arrangements

A common method is to multiply what the flowers and foliage cost you by a markup (often 3 to 3.5), multiply hard goods like vases, wrap and boxes by a smaller markup (often 2), then add labour as a share of that price (often 20 to 30%). These are common starting points, not rules: check your own costs, time and local prices.

Markup or margin?

Markup is how many times your cost you charge (cost $20, price $70 = 3.5×). Margin is the share of the price you keep after the cost of goods ($50 of $70 = 71%). Margin has to cover your rent, wages, waste and delivery, so a markup that looks big is often just right.

Don’t forget

  • Waste: some stems never sell. A slightly higher flower markup covers them.
  • Delivery: charge it separately, or build it into the price for local orders.
  • Seasonal peaks: roses cost more before Valentine’s Day; update stem costs when your wholesaler does.

Quick answers

What is the standard markup for flowers?

Many florists use about 3 to 3.5 times the cost of fresh flowers, about 2 times for vases and hard goods, plus 20 to 30% for labour.

How do I calculate a florist’s profit margin?

Subtract the cost of flowers and hard goods from the price, then divide by the price. The calculator shows this for you.

Should labour be included in flower prices?

Yes. Design time is skilled work; most florists add it as a percentage of the arrangement’s retail value.

Is this flower pricing calculator free?

Yes, free with no sign-up, in US dollars, pounds, euros, Australian and Canadian dollars.
